Cortex wash is one of the challenging steps in cataract surgery. Complications like posterior capsular rent are likely to happen if careful techniques are not employed. A number of methods have been studied, each with their own challenges. The merry go round technique innovated by surgeons from Aravind-Pondicherry, is a simple but effective technique in removing subincisional cortex.
- Subincisional cortex
- Fill the capsular bag with viscoelastic
- Place the intraocular lens in the bag
- Rotate the intraocular lens in the capsular bag
- Rotate it 2 or 3 times in merry go round manner
- Rotate until the cortex gets discharged
- Aspire the dislodged cortex
