Sustainability, frugality, creative reuse being the pillars of our hospitals foundation, we have incorporated all these in our system in every possible way.
Frugality is a quality which is essential to have a sustainable workplace. Responsible consumption have been our prime focus to reduce wastage inturn reducing carbon footprint benefitting for institute as well as for the environment.
In AEH – Pondicherry, we have a check list for reusable items.
For example – the vitrector, after its usage is cleaned and packaged for ETO sterilization and a label containing date of first and last usage, number of times used previously and verifier’s name is pasted on it.
The vitrector used is decided according to the case. In cases where efficient cutting is required, like in high myopes a cutter which has been used 1-2 times is selected.
Whereas in cases like post PKP, corneal ulcers, a vitrector with more use is selected.
This way, unnecessary wastage of vitrectors can be avoided as the right one is selected on a case to case basis.
It also acts a quality control check point for reusable items by ensuring there’s no under or over utilisation.
