Equipment replacement and maintenance can be a costly affair. The Biomedical Engineering Department of Aarvind-Madurai that has found a cost-effective solution for one of their medical equipment needs. The operating table at the LASIK OT had a problem with the headrest that holds the patient’s head with the help of a vacuum bag holder. As there was a leak in the bag, it could not retain the vacuum when connected with a vacuum machine. After detecting the problem, the team developed a handmade headrest to replace the original. The new headrest, which costs only Rs. 600, serves the same purpose as the original headrest that costs Rs. 70,000 along with the vacuum bag holder. This solution not only saves money but also ensures that the medical equipment is functional, enabling the hospitals to continuously provide high-quality care to their patients.
