A scooter footrest was ingeniously repurposed to fit a wheelchair at Aravind-Salem, offering a cost-effective solution to the scarcity of wheelchair footrest replacements. Typically made of fibre, the footrests are prone to damage, leaving the entire wheelchair unusable. Consequently, wheelchairs with damaged footrests, previously used in paying hospitals, were relocated to free hospitals. Subsequently, damaged footrests were replaced with scooter footrests costing as little as Rs. 180, providing a practical and economical alternative
